01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A meal at Hiyori can begin with a few small plates to go with a drink and end with a bowl of something more substantial. The “Northern Fare” section includes grilled Atka mackerel (1/4, 600 yen), overnight-dried komai (600 yen), chicken zangi (500 yen) and lamb leg steak with mustard sauce (1,500 yen). For a table built around appetisers, choose from sake-friendly bites such as squid marinated in sake lees, Matsumae-zuke and sansho-zuke, or order an assortment of 3 kinds (1,200 yen). Sake is available from half a serving at 600 yen. One diner wrote about enjoying potato salad and squid with sake, while another said staff recommended sake to match their tastes and dishes—a useful option if you are unsure what to pair.

Hiyori’s potato salad costs 500 yen. One diner said it was especially memorable, and another, who had come for the fried rice, also noted how much they liked the potato salad. Other choices include chicken breast and spring cabbage simmered in cream, as well as pork shoulder loin grilled with salt koji and topped with Japanese horseradish (600 yen), giving you different ways to build a spread of vegetable and meat dishes. The lamb leg steak is served with mustard sauce; one diner listed it among the dishes they recommended, while another recalled ordering lamb and fried rice. The menu’s appeal lies in offering choices that range from small plates to a final, more substantial dish.

For the end of the meal, there is Hiyori fried rice (800 yen), a salted rice ball (450 yen), a curry of the day (700 yen) and ramen (800 yen). One diner particularly enjoyed the ramen. Whether you want to linger over appetisers and drinks or finish with a proper meal, there are several ways to round things off. Drinks include draft beer and Sapporo Classic, as well as red and white wine. Some diners choose sake to go with their food, while beer and wine offer other options. Counter seating is available, and booking is recommended for dinner. Payment is cash only, so come prepared.
